Prof. Mathieu Vinken

The ESTIV Honorary Membership has been granted to Prof. Mathieu Vinken (ESTIV President 2016-2020) in recognition of his outstanding commitment and contributions to ESTIV.

Short Bio:

Mathieu Vinken is a full professor affiliated to the Vrije Universiteit Brussel-Belgium and a visiting professor at the University of São Paulo-Brazil. He has a background in pharmaceutical sciences (Pharm.D.), holds a doctoral degree in experimental in vitro toxicology (Ph.D.) and is a European Registered Toxicologist (E.R.T.). He is past-President of the European Society of Toxicology In Vitro.

His research focus is situated in the field of in vitro toxicology (mechanistic modelling of liver toxicity as the basis for the development of liver-based in vitro systems) and in the area of experimental hepatology (connexin and pannexin channels as drug targets and biomarkers for the therapy and diagnosis of liver disease).

He is promoter of 6 completed PhD projects and 3 finalized postdoctoral projects. He is author of more than 180 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (h-index in Web of Science 40). He is editor of 3 books. He is editor-in-chief of Frontiers in In Vitro Toxicology and MethodsX Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Science, associate editor of Toxicology In Vitro, Archives of Toxicology, Current Research in Toxicology and Journal of Dietary Supplements as well as European editor of Applied In Vitro Toxicology. He is a regularly invited speaker on international conferences in the area of toxicology and hepatology. He is member of various expert panels. He coordinates several (inter)national research projects and received a number of scientific awards.

About the ESTIV Honorary Membership

ESTIV Honorary membership is granted to an ESTIV member for his/her extraordinary merits in the pursuit of the aims of ESTIV. The recipients of this grade receive a certificate and recognition at the ESTIV Congresses. Honorary members have the same rights and obligations as regular members but do not have to pay any contributions. A list of ESTIV Honorary members can be found here.
