PhD Position (3 years) OPEN

The group of Molecular Toxicology of the School of Life Sciences (Applied Sciences University Northwestern Switzerland), in collaboration with the University of Basel and under the auspices of SCAHT (Swiss Center for applied human toxicology) offers a Phd position.

Project title

Characterization of key events and biomarkers of liver fibrosis

In the context of investigating the Adverse Outcome Pathway “hepatic fibrosis”, and in collaboration with SCAHT (Swiss Center for applied human toxicology) we plan to elucidate the onset, progression and reversion of liver fibrosis. Specifically, this project will apply 2D and 3D-cell culture systems to

Investigate cellular pathways involved in liver fibrosis (e.g. nuclear translocation of Nrf2, UPR) in hepatic stellate cells.

Identify possible biomarkers of liver fibrosis, including known biomarkers of liver fibrosis, transcriptional biomarkers and miRNAs using applying NexGenSeq and qRT-PCR methods.

Candidates should have a diploma or equivalent degree in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, or pharmacy. A strong motivation to work in an interdisciplinary environment on biomedical research is essential; an interest in applied sciences would be an asset. Prior experience with cell cultures, molecular biology, biochemical and/or histological methods is desirable.
